Calculating the quotation
Just as a final check, with all panels accounted for and parts pricing checked, the quotation can be calculated.
The calculation is generally quite simple but you require to know what is being calculated in each case. Occasionally, a variation may occur due to a slight change in the job.
The Job Sheet above is well designed for such calculations (although ideally perhaps an overall total of all the sub-totals were included just above the GST).
On this Job Sheet, the sub-totals have been annotated to indicate where they arise. The sub-totals are added to form an overall sub-total.
GST is calculated from this total of subtotals and then added to form the Final or Grand Total. This Grand Total is the actual price of the quotation.
So in summary,
- use the dent pricing matrix to calculate the PDR for each panel – note the total of these values to obtain the PDR sub-total
- research and note down the parts price in the appropriate section and those to obtain the parts-subtotal
- note down and add the OTHER allowable costs- the total of these OTHERS Sub-total
- add all subtotals (sum of subtotals)
- calculate the GST = 10% of sum of subtotals
- finally calculate the Grant Total = sum of subtotals + GST amount
Some quick rule of thumbs or interesting facts for those not keen on percentages.
- The GST is the sum of subtotals divided by 10.
- The sum of subtotals x 110% = The Grand Total
- The sum of subtotals x 1.1 = The Grand Total (easiest method)

First, the type of vehicle suggests this is a Hyandai Elentra Sedan. Sedan means it it a normal quotation with no special pricing.

2. Consider the Parts for 2 parts the same price
$133.49 x 2 + $20 = $266.98 + $20 = $286.98
3. R + R Vehicle Cut + Polish Rust Proofing
$250 + $75 + $50 = $375
4. Finally add all these $3536.98
5. Grand Total is adding GST
$2875 + $268.98 + $375 = $3890.68
