Australia has a wide variety of companies that deal with vehicle insurance. But as is the case worldwide, insurance companies are buying major stakes in smaller insurance firms to strengthen their market share to form Insurance Groups. IAG and Suncorp are two such examples.

Apart from the typical vehicle insurance, other types of insurance include business insurance, fleet insurance, car yard insurance and specialised insurance such as for vintage or vehicles with club memberships. Shannons is one such type of insurance that specialises in unique vehicles. Another example of specialisation is Vero provides insurance for fleets of vehicles (minimum number of vehicles insured). Major banks and even supermarket chains have also joined the markets to provide insurance – Coles and Comminsure come to mind.
